Re: knoppix question

It will boot into 128MB w/ no swap. It's a little slower at 128, but useable. 256 should be fine. I don't know what the low end ram is. One possible Knoppix problem is the large number of daemons that auto start at boot. Some Western Digital drives I've had wanted to be on CS, especially if the only drive in the chain. I personally don't trust CS as far as I could throw it. It can get confusing which drive you are using when installing an OS or a new bootloader. CDRW drives like to be Secondary Master, but don't have to be. When they first came out for IDE that was a general rule to installing one though. Move the CDROM from SM to SS and put the CDRW on SM. Or put the CDROM on as PS. Can't remember which gives you better speed for CD to CD copy, but I imagine the best solution would be a drive controller and put em both on as masters. SSH Timeouts

I'm looking for other people who are having trouble maintaining idle SSH sessions. Recently RoadRunner replaced our router at one location, and since then idle sessions lock up in three to five minutes. As far as I know, there was no change on any of the systems involved. SSH clients and daemons are largely set to default configurations. Sessions within the site do not lock up, and sessions between other sites still behave as expected. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR HELP READING THE SSH MAN PAGES! I am aware that there might be solutions in using UDP keepalive signals and other options, but what I want to do is confirm what's happened so I identify the reason and return things to their previous function. I am looking for other people who have EXPERIENCED this change, or who have heard about it happening to someone else. I want to identify what we may have in common with other sites where this has happened. Thanks, Jonathan

When I take down my linux box and reboot, it won't connect unless I reset the switch. This in itself was livable I am the admin, I just have to remember to reset the switch or have someone else do it if I am not on site. Now, I reloaded an XP box on a linksys switch that is having the same problem. Is there something I am missing on this. do I need to open a port on the computers so the switches can see them easier? Computer Setup: Primary Master: Hard Drive Primary Slave: Nothing Present Secondary Master: Hard Drive #but no hard drive was presenting when trying to boot to cd. Secondary Slave: DVD Player I was trying to boot from the cdrom and it wasn't showing up in POST just the primary master hard drive. So I took the PM Hard drive out and just let the secondary boot by itself worked like a charm. I got it to work with the the below setup. Is this just me or does the bus not get scanned if a Secondary Master is present? Kinda weird I would think it would. This is probably the first time I have tried to boot from SM not present. Kinda weird though either way.
