I was able to install Ubuntu on the Acer One after repartitioning,
reformatting, and reinstalling the Ubuntu Live CD on the flash drive. I
think I must have screwed up the MBR with syslinux. Works perfectly
now. Excellent netbook.
Ok- This is slightly OT but worth considering!

Well- The Live Journal entry of the Object's Maker tells the tale... Pass
this around to the other LUG and related groups as many of us are fans of
Steampunk- making us likely to see or hear the thief's
bragging/showing/trying to sell the item .. Let's show some solidarity ok?

I finally got my network run over to the MythTV box a couple days ago. I ran updates on the PC and added a couple myth plug-ins that I did not get a chance to choose at install.
I know this is weird, but I don't have a TV capture card in this PC. I have digital satellite and like digital cable, the tuner in the cards are not capable of getting all the channels and require a descrambler box. I don't want to mess with an IR blaster and training the family how to use the device.
What I do …
[View More]want to do is start getting torrents of TV episodes to the box. Is there anything in MythTV to download torrents? I saw something about RSS feeds, but haven't a clue about getting that going. I think I loaded a myth plugin for a feed reader. How do I find the feeds or what is the best way to go about finding episodes of a couple shows like Heroes, Mentalist, Dexter, Robot Chicken, etc. including past seasons and getting them into the MythTV database/interface?
I'm not sure that a torrent program loaded, so I'll have to verify that or get one. I've downloaded torrents before, but the key is to get them into MythTV to make it easier for everyone else.
The other thing is that I loaded a plugin for using game emulators within MythTV, called MythGame. Do I have to load the emulators separately via the apt-get process? Any idea how to import the game ROMs. Someone gave me a couple burned CDs full of game ROMs a few years ago and as soon as I find them, I like to get those classic games running.

I have a DirecTV DVR which is a pretty slow, stupid box, but is linked to
their web site, and I can download what they have on offer. I've messed with
mediatomb, and so far the ratio is about three hours futzing with the setup
for each three minutes of music/video I want to play, to be repeated next
time because the working setup inexplicably broke.
I'd like to have an option to pipe an audio stream from a cental PC to various
non-digital audio systems around the house. My first guess …
[View More]would be an FM
transmitter plugged directly into the output jack of the sound card. Every
FM transmitter I've tried, though, has been barely capable of transmitting to
a receiver 18" away, let alone through the steel siding to the detatched
garage.
I could build a full-fledged MythTV box to go beside the DirecTV box - who
knows, it might even replace it - but that may be overkill, and doesn't cover
listening in the garage.
So what do you think I should do? I could shop around for old laptops, and
put one at each listening point - I can handle setting up streaming from
there. I could grab two or three $150 netbooks, and use them - they'd
probably burn less electricity. I could go exotic, get some microatx or
PC104 hardware and build from there. What's the best solution?

My client has a small business specializing in e-commmerce
software/solutions for small/medium sized businesses. They've spent last
3 years working on a ground up rewrite in OO PHP5, MySQL5, Ajax
(Jquery), Smarty, etc. They have had live customers for over a year now
but have not officially released the application yet.
They are looking for someone to take over as the head developer
basically. They need to be good with both "under the hood" type of stuff
(lower level framework) as well as UI/…
[View More]AJAX, etc. They are looking for
someone that has a deep ecommerce background primarily. Someone that has
been involved in large scale products, not just projects. Someone that
has drive, can work without direct supervision, can bring good ideas and
vision, help manage others when need, etc. It would be a plus if they
are savvy in FreeBSD (compiling kernels, lighttpd, MySQL, benchmarking,
etc), but not a requirement.
This is a 100% telecommute, full time job paying $60,000 per year. There
are no benefits at present, but that might change in the future. My
client is physically located in Boston, MA and if you lived nearby for
occasional meetings, it would be a plus, but not required. You can
reside anywhere in the USA.
Candidates should have held full time positions for 2 or more years. No
"job-hoppers" please. Strong command of English a MUST since most
communication will be done via telephone, email, Skype, etc.
Candidates should be well-versed in OO PHP 5, MySQL, UI and AJAX and
have a deep e-commerce background.
When applying, please write up a paragraph or two highlighting your
experience as it pertains to this job description and include your
resume and salary requirements to beau-AT-open-source-staffing.com
Thank you,

ncdt is directory tree printer that can print the length of time to
listen to all the mp3's in the working directory and it's
subdirectories.
Is there ncdt equivalent for ogg?
These are all usable, I'm pretty sure, but I'm not gonna put time into testing
them. One of them's currently my server monitor, I know it's OK, another was
my wife's before she upgraded to a flatscreen. I'd tweak the focus on that
if I were going to use it as my main monitor, but it's fine for a console. A
third was my desktop, and it needs to have the gain turned up a bit, it's
kind of dim. I think the fourth one is the one with the bad power switch
(everything else is fine), but as …
[View More]I said I'm not gonna put time into finding
out. Anybody who wants 'em can have 'em, if I don't hear by next week I'll
take 'em to Surplus Exchange and pay the fee.
